Thanks for the swift response.

I was not aware of the 512 bytes sector size limitation. The HS21 blades are indeed 8853.
According to the manufacturer(http://www.hgst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/6A7E7E6848832B7786257603007AAF5E/$file/DS7K2000_DS_final.pdf), the sector size should be 512 bytes and I have also tried with smaller disks (IBM SATA 500GB, older Seagate 120GB SATA).

I know I cannot mix SATA and SAS, so I also tried a diskless HS21 with the SAS daughter card, without success unfortunately.

The SAS Connectivity module is reporting the disk as faulty, even without connecting a HS21 (although this should not necessary mean that these disks would be inaccessible).

Maybe it has to do with single port vs. dual port SATA/SAS. I have found a spare single port SAS disk (not SATA) also reported by the SAS connectivity module reported as faulty.
I have also placed this issue on an IBM forum, hopefully someone of IBM will be willing to answer this query.

I will update this forum as soon as I have more information.

I have read that indeed, but it doesn't necessarily mean other types of disks wouldn't work, but it is becoming more and more likely though.
